Hi I'm Andy

I'm a Research Scientist at the Robotics & AI Institute (RAI) in Cambridge, MA. In a previous life, I completed my PhD on Compliant Robot Manipulation in the Yale GRAB Lab. Today, I work on building some of the most performant robot systems in the world -- and I stand by that statement.

During this journey, I spent some time with IAS @ TU Darmstadt and half a year with Amazon Robotics AI in Berlin. My pursuit in building more capable robots has always been time consuming, but along the way I try to also spend energy on various STEM outreach initiatives, running world marathon majors, and adventuring around the globe.

The Pursuit

Over the past decade, I've dedicated my waking thoughts to exploring innovative ways to make robots faster, smarter, and more capable. I envision a future where robots work alongside humans, providing safe and accessible assistance for various service tasks. However, one of the most fundamental challenges in robotics today is the development of fine motor skills for arms and hands.

To overcome this, we need to build better motors, sensors, transmissions, motion planners, and control architectures. This is where my work hopefully comes in.
